Welcome to the 28th edition of the Dispute Resolution Directory, a guide to the treasure trove of academic opportunities and practical internships in the Boston area waiting to be explored by those interested in the field of negotiation and dispute resolution. The educational institutions of greater Boston are leaders in this field, attracting faculty, students and practitioners from around the world and from a variety of disciplines, including law, business, diplomacy, economics, and psychology. Seventeen colleges and universities have courses in negotiation and related studies listed in this directory, and three of these schools offer degrees in dispute resolution. Local internships, also catalogued here, provide opportunities for gaining practical experience at public and private organizations dealing with conflict. The Dispute Resolution Directory is a publication of the Dispute Resolution Program, a research project of the Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School. PON is a community of scholars, students and practitioners, primarily from Harvard, MIT, and Tufts University. This community shares a belief that although conflict is inevitable, individuals, organizations, and communities can learn to do better at managing disputes. An important part of PON's mission is to increase public awareness of successful conflict resolution processes. Clearly, the world has an ever-growing need for people skilled in understanding negotiation and conflict, whether their primary focus is business, statecraft, human rights, global trade, the environment, family dynamics, labor issues, school violence, or some other context. We hope that whether you are a teacher, student or practitioner, you will find this guide useful. We welcome your comments and suggestions for improvement. We also invite you to regularly check the PON website, www.pon.harvard.edu, for news of events and projects that you may find of interest and to learn more about PON.
