Spring 2008 - Mediation and Participatory Processes

Monday evenings, February 4 - May 5, 2008

This 12-week interactive seminar provides participants with the opportunity to examine the practice of mediation and the skills employed to reach consensus among parties with divergent interests and objectives. Central to this discussion will be the nature of "third party intervention" as a social process crucial to problem solving, conflict management and large-scale change.

Participants will explore ways to design third-party processes that foster an environment for conflict resolution. Using interactive simulations and case studies, students examine the impact of third-party intervention in interpersonal, environmental, commercial and international disputes.

PON seminars are open to participants from all disciplines and professional fields.

The class meets once per week on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on the Harvard Campus.

Registration is closed for the Spring 2008 seminar.

This course was interesting and understandable, but at the same time made you think and analyze situations.

I liked the organization of the course very much and all the instructors did a wonderful job.

Nice balance of intellectual theory, background and practical advice.

The other participants were wonderful - very engaged, capable people. Group dynamics were challenging so I was able to stretch and apply the lessons.

This course completely fulfilled my expectations; it was fantastic.
