Amal Jadou, Graduate Research Fellow at the Program on Negotiation, was selected in February 2004 for the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) Prize from the Tokyo Foundation of Japan. This selective award provides a grant of $5,000 and the opportunity to meet individuals and organizations in Japan connected with the Fellow's work. The goal of the SYLFF Program is to "nurture future leaders who will transcend the geopolitical, religious, ethnic, and cultural boundaries and actively participate in the world community for peace and the well-being of humankind."

At the Program on Negotiation, Ms. Jadou is continuing her work on the Palestinian situation through a dissertation entitled: "The Role of the United States as a Mediator in the Palestinian Israeli Negotiations under Clinton." In his letter to Ms. Jadou, Tokyo Foundation Chairman Kimindo Kusaka wrote that "the panel and foundation were and continue to be deeply impressed and touched by your clear vision; unwavering, strong commitment; courage and perseverance; and [your] ability to inspire others."

Ms. Jadou will receive her SYLFF Prize at an award ceremony in Tokyo. The two other recipients of the award are Egla Martinez-Sanchez, of York University, and Goran Svilanovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serbia and Montenegro. To read Ms. Jadou's prize winning essay, click here.
