Young Global LeadersThe World Economic Forum announced this week that Daniel L. Shapiro has been selected as a Young Global Leader. Fellow Young Global Leaders include President Kabila of the Congo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Larry Page and Sergey Brin (founders of Google) and the King of Bhutan. Drawn from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates, the 2008 Young Global Leaders were chosen by a selection committee of 31 eminent international media leaders, including Arthur Sulzberger of the New York Times. Young Global Leaders are chosen based on their professional accomplishments, commitment to society, and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.

As part of their engagement, Young Global Leaders give their time to task forces to initiate, develop and drive innovative solutions on important, globally-oriented issues, including health, education, the environment, global governance and security, and development and poverty.
