On May 26, 2010, Kamla Persad-Bissessar made history when she was sworn in as the first female Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. She was recently named one of the top 10 female leaders by Time.com in partnership with CNN. A former teacher and social worker, Persad-Bissessar also became the first woman to serve as Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago in 1995 and went on to continue her public service as Minister of Legal Affairs, Minister of Education, and Member of Parliament. Come and hear this remarkable woman’s story of her rise to the top and her philosophy on governing in a multi-ethnic society as she leads a coalition of five political parties.
