Event Date: Thursday September 20, 2007
Time: 7:15 P.M.
Location: Langdell South, Harvard Law School

Step inside the secret negotiations, strategies and maneuvers between Israelis and Palestinians during the deadly 38-day standoff at the Church of the Nativity. The Siege of Bethlehem shows exclusive footage of both the Israeli chief negotiators at work outside the church and the armed Palestinians pent up inside, and offers a rare, close-up look at the challenges of finding peace in the Middle East.

As a crisis negotiator, Moty Cristal took part in this intensive process to bring to a peaceful end the military crisis development. After the documentary, he will present a brief negotiation analysis of the situation, and will show how classic negotiation strategies, developed at PON, were applied in this crisis situation.

Moty Cristal is the founder and CEO of Nest Consulting and is currently writing his PhD on “A systemic model for complex negotiations” in the Department of International Relations at the London School of Economics. Since 2001, he has taught and trained negotiation and crisis management to senior managers in both the private and public sectors, and was recently appointed as special advisor to the Israeli Prime Minister on economic and civic crisis negotiations. He consults in strategic and complex negotiations and crisis management in Israel, Europe, the US and Asia, and teaches international negotiation and crisis management at Tel Aviv University and the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzelia. From 1994 to 2001, he served in various official positions in Israeli negotiation teams with Jordan and the Palestinians, and experienced years of cross-cultural negotiations within the Israeli-Arab conflict.
